Frictionless Store Specification Documents

Role: Project Leader, Designer, Content Producer
Team: Matt Walker, Albert Rivera

Overview

Accel Robotics was developing checkout-free stores and products that support it. I was tasked to lead the efforts in creating specification documents for internal and external use.

Gathering Information

I met with various internal teams from sales to hardware and gathered the necessary information we needed to assemble the spec sheets. At the same time, I coordinated brainstorming sessions where we discussed the look and feel for these documents and posted our inspirations on a Miro board. We pulled together inspirations from various places, even a doughnut recipe!

Not Specifications, but Instructions

I also designed an instructional document for Accel Robotics' Onboarding Box, a frictionless store accessory that onboards products by photographing and scanning objects for AI classification. I teamed up with a few folks from other departments to develop the installation and setup instructions. Albert, our junior designer, and I modeled our store and its components using Blender then I leveraged the Adobe Suite for illustrating and designing the book.

Not Specifications, but Instructions

We needed to author the manual so it was easy to understand and follow. We walked through each procedure and it was my job to illustrate and write clear enough instructions that anyone can perform it. We shipped out our Onboarding Box along with its manual to colleagues in our Japan office. The manual did great! We only had to update a few items, but overall it did well.
